Near the end of last summer a juvenile Broad-winged Hawk was hanging around in the woods behind the house for a few weeks. This spring another has appeared and I'm wondering if it's the youngster all grown up as it seems to be favoring the same area. It's missing a few feathers on it's left wing but still gets around as if nothing is wrong. I set up a couple of nights ago hoping it would stick to it's routine of doing a fly over just before sunset and I wasn't disappointed. There are two color phases of these hawks and this is the rarer of the two which also makes me tend to believe this may be the same one. Whether it is or not, they are a majestic bird to watch.

Spring Trip to Elk Country
I took a day trip to the Benezette area the other day for a change of scenery and to do some picture taking with some trout fishing thrown in along the way.
There are still a lot of spike bulls holding on to their antlers.
Some of them even did some light sparring. I was wondering if the contact would result in any 'horns' on the ground but they held firm.
This old girl sure looked to me as if she was with calf.
As expected, there were some bulls mixed in the group that had shed their antlers already.
I did catch a few trout...
...and enjoyed the scenery that was offered up.
A nice little getaway for sure!
